About the SEC

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires public companies to disclose financial and other information to the public.  One of the most useful reports is the 10-K report, which includes information from the company's annual report.  The 10-K report may include information on the company's products, goals, market share, regulatory and competitive trends.  You can search for SEC filings using the EDGAR online system available for free from the SEC web site at http://www.sec.gov/.
