Banned Books

Rudolfo Anaya’s “Bless Me, Ultima”was pulled from library shelves after Arizona passed a law banning Mexican-American studies. Margaret Atwood’s “A Handmaid’s Tale” depicts a world in which a religious sect fobids women to read. “Catch-22” was banned in Strongsville, Ohio. Distributed by PBS Distribution.

Lean adapted Boris Pasternak's novel "Doctor Zhivago" following its ban in Russia; he wanted to create a great romance for the screen following the success of "Lawrence of Arabia." Experts talk about "A Passage to India." Lean was influenced by silent movies and used the best technology for all of his films.

How to Locate Videos for Your Research Topic:

  • Scroll down on the homepage to browse by subject

  • Click on Menu and select Browse Videos to go to a list of subject areas for videos or Browse Producer to see a list of video producers.

  • Search with keywords using the Basic Search located on the top of the page:basic search box
  • Click on the Advanced Search link located under the Basic Search box and use the advanced search features.  These features will allow you to search for videos by subject, title, keyword, producers, formats, and a variety of filters.  You can even limit your search to only videos with closed captioning and interactive transcripts.Advanced Search
